Visit to the American Museum, Bath

Sightseeing in Bath

After sightseeing and lunch in Bath, 50 members visited the American Museum.

The beautiful gardens of the museum are set in the historic Claverton Manor house with extensive views across the Avon Valley. The American Museum is the only one of its kind outside America, with exhibits detailing the history and culture of the people; including the lives and customs of the North American Indians. At present the main focus is on 150 Historic Patchwork Quilts which are on display dating from the late 18th century to modern day; the exquisite workmanship was much admired. The quilts are displayed in the separate Exhibition Gallery Building.

Enjoying tea in the sunshine

On a sunny spring day tea on the terrace overlooking the Avon rounded off a really pleasant day’s outing.
