The Golden Cap Centre

Social Committee Report (Jan 2009)

A Lunch and a Song

The first Autumn event was a lunch in October to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Golden Cap Centre attended by over 80 members. The lunch was held in the Salway Ash Village Hall with the food being cooked and served by the Social Committee, with invaluable help from several other members. After the lunch, guests were entertained by ‘Bosom Friends’, a local female acappella (unaccompanied singing) group.

We were also all thrilled to see Peter Phillips, our nonagenarian ex-Chairman, and his daughter, who made the long journey from Perth, where he now lives, to join us for the lunch.

Autumn Coffee Morning

The Autumn Coffee Morning, held later than usual this year in November, had a Christmas theme - successfully “recycling” many of last year’s unwanted Christmas gifts that had been donated by members.
The Christmas theme was reinforced by the provision of mince pies with the tea or coffee. These were home-made by members of the Social Committee and proved to be very popular.

What shall I buy?

Are there any more biscuits?

Quiz and Chips

The Quiz and Fish ‘n’ Chip Lunch, in December 2008, was as enjoyable as ever. Many thanks are due to Margaret Harrington who, once again, provided an extremely entertaining quiz with a variety of general knowledge and cryptic questions that tested our memories and exercised our grey cells.

Concentrating on the Quiz

Forthcoming events are a lunch at Eype’s Mouth Hotel in January, and a lunch provided by the committee at Marsh Barn in February - both are now fully booked.
